Here is the e-mail that was sent out after Sara was born:
Hi everyone!
Finally...I have a moment to introduce baby Sara! She was born on May 22, 2007 at 9:28 am. She weighed 7 lbs 3 oz and was 20 inches long. We are so glad that she is finally here! Anna is adjusting very well, Ryan has his moments, but is doing well overall. Sara's personality (so far) is very sweet and passive and is a very welcome addition to our family. Sara was unexpectedly born with "upper extremity malformations" as the doctor put it. Her arms were not moving at birth and her wrist/hand/fingers were contracted. After she was born, she was sent to the NICU where doctors, technicians, and geneticist performed tests on her all day. After the EKG, MRI, x-rays of her bones, and ultrasound of her other internal organs all came back "perfect," the doctors could offer no explanation as to why it happened. We obviously are thankful that other than her weak shoulders, arms, and hands, she is perfectly healthy. Yesterday, Sara began to move some of the muscles in her arms, which was probably the most exciting moment of my life. It seems that there is something to build on. We are scheduled to see a pediatric orthopedist very soon. In the upcoming weeks and months, Sara will be undergoing tests, surgery (most likely), castings, and therapy. Please keep Sara, our family, and the doctors in your prayers as she receives treatment. Here is the website so you can check out the photos. Love Rich, Lori, Anna, Ryan and Sara
