18 Month Update

Sweet Sara is 18 months old now, half way to three. It's hard to believe. She has readily accepted her position as "baby" of the family, and some might say she's a bit...spoiled. She's "holding her own" when it comes to Anna and Ryan teasing her and is not at all shy with other children-older or younger! All of her favorite things begin with "b" such as balloons, balls, books, babies, Barney, and "booty" (Pirates Booty-it's a cheese puff snack). Yesterday, she said her first sentence after her bath: "Bye bye wa wa." This morning she said her second sentence: "Bye bye da da." when Rich left for work.

Sara continues to gain strength in her arms and hands. She is becoming proficient at eating finger foods in her high chair. Her grasp is getting stronger and she can carry more things. She still cannot bend her arm. She will be starting electrical stimulation therapy soon, if she can tolerate it. Sara uses her thighs a lot to help her arms move and bend. She is showing a lot of interest in coloring and is beginning to hold markers, crayons, and pencils attempting to write. Sara continues to have doctor appointments every 6 months with the orthopedic surgeon, plastic surgeon, and neurologist. My understanding that if surgery is to take place, it will be when she is 4 or 5 years old. Sara brings so much life to our household. Anna and Ryan adore her-actually, they all adore each other.
