The Mechanic

We arrived early this morning to see the mechanic. They have been working on the RV all day- 8:45am to 5:00 pm. They are baffled. They have no idea why the computer shut down the transmission (except for one “safe” gear), or why the computer won’t even communicate with the transmission. They’ve been communicating with a transmission specialist (for our specific brand of transmission) in San Francisco, who is also baffled. At 5:00 pm the shop closed and everyone went home, except us. We are still here. Literally. We didn’t even move the RV. The shop owner (all such nice people) said he didn’t mind if we stayed here, and even invited us to stay at his house (Salinas is a relatively small farming town, it’s so nice...reminds me of Southern Hospitality...something not experienced in SoCal, beyond family of course). They said they’d be back in the morning to continue. We waited around much of the day, hoping/believing that they would figure it out so we could go home. Not today. If they can’t fix it by 5:00pm tomorrow, we’re just going to drive home (we pulled our car) and leave the RV here. The kids are missing VBS at our church this week and Rich needs to get back to work. We were due to arrive home last night... that was the plan, but obviously, plans change. While we were waiting, we took the kids to a fun little park the mechanic told us about.
“Now listen, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money." Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, "If it is the Lord's will, we will live and do this or that."
James 4:13-15
