Who has (non-affectionately) been promoted to “big rat” by Rich. As predicted, we didn’t sleep much last night. At about 4 in the morning, Rich, Anna, and Ryan heard the mouse trap snap, but it didn’t sound like it caught the mouse, as it spent the rest of the morning in the cabinets. Rich was sure that he would catch it this morning, it sounded like it was stuck in one of the cabinets...but when he opened it, it wasn’t there. As Rich systematically opened each cabinet, he also had the opportunity for a quick viewing before quickly closing the drawer. “Wow. He’s big.” Yes dear, I know. He opened the drawer again to pot over the big sucker, but he wasn’t there and we haven’t heard him since. Rich, Anna, and Sara made yet another trip to the store for a third kind of mouse trap: the sticky kind. Rich and I joked that when he steps on it, he’s going to turn green, bulk up, and simply un-stick himself and walk away.
Oh, I hope we catch him today. We’re all a bit edgy, as you could imagine, being sleep deprived, in tight quarters, outside of a mechanic shop in a small town, far away from home, with a mouse scurrying about. We’ve seemed to stay positive for the most part, taking it as it is. We’re thankful to be safe and well, and together. This morning we’re going to cook breakfast (eggs, sausage, and pancakes) for the mechanics and then head over to Monterey for the day. Hopefully when we come back, the “big rat” (even though it’s just a big mouse) will be “taken care of.”
