The RV Saga Continues...

Rich got an e-mail late Thursday night that the RV appeared to be fixed and ready to go. All this time, different people, different shops were trying to find the cause of the problem. By now, the person fixing the RV was the customer support manager, a big-wig from the regional transmission company. The manager drove to Salinas from San Francisco and brought his fancy-shmancy diagnostic tools that the shops don't have access to. He decided that the problem was with the connectors that connect the computer to the chassis. So even though 12 were loose, he graciously replaced all 51 pins, as a "kind gesture."

After receiving the email, Rich excitedly made plans to leave the next day to drive the 5 hours north to retrieve it. After working for several hours, he left straight and arrived in Salinas in the late afternoon. Shortly after arriving, he talked to the owners of the shop, paid the bill for their labor, tried to nap (but couldn't), and then headed home. After 25 minutes on the road ...





...the RV did the SAME THING! The transmission shut down and left Rich with one gear (I presume, third, again). Rich decided that he was "over" Salinas so he kept driving south-in third gear. He didn't text me that anything was wrong until he was almost to San Luis Obispo, which is 127 miles south of Salinas. He called me from the Co$tco parking lot after he emailed his big-wig contact, who, in-turn, called the towing company (by now it's almost midnight) to tow the RV to the southern California regional shop, which is in the L.A. area. The tow truck driver met Rich at 7:30 the next morning and towed our RV to their shop and Rich drove home in the car...vaguely familiar...

So, now at least now the RV is in SoCal and will hopefully be fixed by the end of the week...hopefully... We are pleased that the transmission company people are involved now, and they have been completely pleasant and helpful.


While Rich was in Salinas (which is a farming town), the nice people gave Rich a huge bag of fresh-cut broccoli! I thought that was so nice!
