Mammoth Part 3: Devil's Postpile

Several years ago (before Sara was born), we took a bus down into the valley to go see Devil's Postpile.  I don't mind riding buses and I don't mind driving up and down mountain roads, but riding on a bus up and down mountain roads terrifies me.  This year, we finally went down the mountain into the valley again—in the car.  In order to drive the car down, we had to be past the entrance to the National Monument before 7am.  After 7, no cars were allowed.  I'm so proud of us for getting up super early (in the freezing cold) and past the entrance well before 7am.  The 7 mile drive down the winding roads was beautiful.  When we reached the bottom, everyone was hungry.  It was so so cold that no one wanted to get out of the car and go find something to eat, but eventually we went to the general store and found a few things to  eat before we set out on our hike.  And of course, Rich brought along his trusty Jetboil so we were able to have hot chocolate and hot tea.  We saw 2 deer prancing along the steep mountain side during breakfast which distracted us from the cold for a bit.

The morning quickly warmed up as the sun rose and touched down on the valley.  It was a short hike to Devil's Postpile.  We were all in awe of hexagonal shape of the rocks.  I spent whole time thinking and being amazed and grateful for how God created everything with order:  time, seasons, plants, animals, people, and rocks.  Devil's Postpile screamed God's glory (which is ironic, given it's name!)
