By the time we left Devil's Postpile, it was quite toasty outside. Since we had never hiked to Rainbow Falls before, we didn't really know what the trails were like, but we decided to bring Sara's stroller because of the long-ish hike and because we started so early in the morning. The trails were not exactly stroller-friendly. A short while into the hike, it was obvious that we should have left the stroller behind. Rich pushed it all the way to Rainbow Falls and almost all the way back to Red Meadows (it was about a mile shorter than hiking all the way back to the car) and then we took the bus back to our car. Four miles doesn't seem like that long to hike, although when kids are hot, hungry, and tired and there's a stroller involved, 4 miles was long enough. The hike was absolutely beautiful the way the wildflowers grew among the dead trees. I could have spent the day just hiking on the trail, but since Rich was pushing Sara in the stroller almost the whole way, he was not in the mood to oblige to my wanting to stop every 5 seconds (though I still managed to sneak some in!)
Rainbow Falls was so beautiful. We rested there for quite a while, putting our feet in the water and listening to the powerful, yet relaxing sound of the water. I spent time trying to get a shot of the waterfall that was "just right" and kids had a contest to see who could keep their feet in the freezing water the longest. We all agreed that the hike was worth it—although next time we'll leave the stroller in the car.
